We are in Paris with New Peugeot 3008.
At my side is the new generation 3008 that was first introduced in 2009.
We have the chance to review this car for a short period of time at this exclusive event.
So let’s cut it short and let me share with you all the information I have about this car starting from the design.
The previous generation 3008 did not exactly look like an SUV.
Some said it looked like an MPV or a hatchback with a higher ground clearance.
But with this car, Peugeot designers clearly show that they have created an SUV in all meanings.
If we analyze the car’s design you see that it has a similar face with 308 since it is a member of that family.
This similarity is clearly displayed through the headlamps.
Of course, as this is an SUV, from the front, it is higher from ground and has a straight end.
At this straight edged front you can see that the chromium details are very apparent.
Plus, the car’s longer hood makes it look much stronger and muscular.
There is a small detail that I would like to share with you.
This chromium part starting from the headlamps and continuing to the windshield was used in Peugeot’s concept vehicle, which was called HX1.
It is integrated to this vehicle.
It is a different form which is appealing to the eye.
When we analyze the car from the side, 3008 is 8 cm longer than the previous generation.
This difference is easily noticed.
This enlargement is not limited to the exterior.
The 6 cm increase in the wheelbase calls for a larger living space in the interior.
Let’s see if this is the case.
Let’s take a look at the back seats.
The rear of the new 3008 is definitely very spacious.
It is said that the legroom is increased by 2 cm.
This is visible to the eye.
There is almost a hand span long legroom.
They also say that the headroom is 4 cm more than the previous generation’s.
And even though there is a sunroof, which means that the roof is lowered, an adult can still comfortably sit here.
Let’s see how much space is offered for the third passenger.
There is a very small transmission tunnel like piece, but it is really not that big a deal.
The presence of air vents at the back is a positive feature.
There are of course some other things worth mentioning about the car’s exterior design.
When you look at it from the side you can see that there are a few shadow plays.
For example this line here and this shoulder line which is a little higher than the first and which continues to the taillights gives the 3008 a sportier look.
Plus the SUV look is emphasized with the side skirts, which has chromium parts.
Okay, what are the changes at the rear? As you can see, when looked at from the back it is a totally different 3008.
The design details I would like to mention here are the lion’s paw taillights which has become a signature of Peugeot.
And the fact that these are used together with a black shiny panel below the rear window makes it look more dynamic.
Let’s see how much loading space is offered under the trunk. Let’s take a look at it together.
This electrically operated tailgate is optional for purchase. While it is available in high speck versions in entry levels it is not an option.
This car offers 520 liters of loading capacity. This is 90 liters more than the previous generation.
I mean, with this improvement it is obvious that the new 3008 will meet the expectations as a family car.
And addition to this with the very low loading bay you can easily load your stuff here.
And finally I am here behind the steering wheel of this new Peugeot lion but unfortunately it is not possible to drive this car.
I will only be able to share with you what I see here, as I have been doing all along.
In the 3008, Peugeot’s new generation i-Cockpit is used and we will start seeing this cockpit in many renewed Peugeot models.
But this is the first car we are seeing this in. It is very attention grabbing, very sporty and very elegantly designed.
In front of me is a 12.3 inch fully digital dashboard.
This is a standard feature offered in all 3008s.
It has 5 different themes and you can choose between them with only one button on the steering wheel according to your taste.
This is quite good and makes 3008 an innovator in it’s class.
Also, here is an 8 inch multimedia touch-screen.
At the moment I do not have the chance to test it but as far as my experience goes I can tell you that the sensitivity of the touch-screen is quite good.
Below it are buttons that resemble piano keys. It is a different design. It is user friendly.
You can easily choose what you want by pressing these buttons.
Of course, the most striking item here is the gear knob.
It has a different design but it fits very comfortably in the driver’s hand and one wants to start the engine and drive the car.
Anyways, we cannot do that now, but I promise that I will try my best to do it as soon as possible.
Here is a pretty large space in front of the gear for your articles.
In addition, here is another small space, plus two cup holders and a very large dual lid armrest.
Okay, what is offered to the driver?
As you know, Peugeot started to use the small steering wheel with 208 and 308 and this tradition is continued in the new 3008.
In this car, there is a double spoke steering wheel, which is different than what we are used to.
The fact that the top of it is straight makes it very easy for you to see the dashboard over the steering wheel.
I of course did not drive the car but I can tell you that it is quite nice from my first impression.
The quality of the materials used in 3008 is also very good. There are no issues with the craftsmanship either.
The last thing I would like to tell you about the interior is that this car will only be on sale as a front wheel drive.
This car offers an advanced version of Peugeot’s Grip Control system. You will be able to use this.
But I should mention that this is not all wheel drive.
After informing you about the general characteristics of this car I am sure you are wondering what kinds of engine options are available for this car.
So let me count these.
First of all, under this car’s hood is, 1.2 liters, turbocharged petrol engine which develops 130 HP and is called PureTech.
You can purchase it with manual or automatic gearbox according to your choice.
If you want a more powerful version, 1.6 liters, turbocharged petrol engine which develops 165 HP will also be available with automatic gearbox.
How about the diesel engine options?
In diesel engines, 1.6 liters, which develops 120 HP that is called BlueHDI will be the only unit brought to our country by Peugeot Turkey.
Again, manual or automatic gearbox options will be available for this diesel engine.
As I have told you in the beginning, here in Paris, we have viewed the new 3008 with a limited number of journalists at this exclusive event.
This car will be displayed at the Paris Motor Show for the first time.
I mean, right now as Carviser subscribers you are one of the lucky few that are watching the review of a car that has not been officially revealed.
Through this event, the first impression I have about 3008 is very positive.
I can tell you that the new 3008 has stepped into a new age when compared to the previous generation.
Honestly, I cannot wait to take this car for a test drive and share more details with you.
I am hoping to be among the first people to review it when it comes to our country in the fourth quarter of 2016.
